Find rest in the “foretaste of glory divine” with this soul-stirring instrumental of the beloved hymn “Blessed Assurance.” This arrangement is designed to help you “draw near with a true heart,” replacing the noise of the world with echoes of mercy and whispers of love.
The Scriptural Foundation
This timeless hymn is a melodic response to the invitation found in Hebrews 10:21-22:
“…and having a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.”
When we sing “Jesus is mine,” we are not just stating a preference; we are declaring our legal and spiritual standing as heirs of salvation, born of His Spirit and washed in His blood.
The Story Behind the Hymn
Written in 1873, “Blessed Assurance” is perhaps the most famous collaboration between the “Queen of Gospel Song Writers,” Fanny J. Crosby, and composer Phoebe Knapp.
Fanny, who had been blind since infancy, was visiting Phoebe when the latter played a new melody on the piano. Phoebe asked, “What does this tune say to you?” Fanny immediately replied, “Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!” Despite her physical blindness, Fanny Crosby possessed an incredible spiritual “vision,” allowing her to write about “visions of rapture” that continue to burst upon the sight of believers today.
Hymn Lyrics (Part I)
1
Blessèd assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.
Chorus
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.
2
Perfect submission, perfect delight,
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angels descending bring from above,
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.
Hymn Lyrics (Part II)
3
Perfect submission, all is at rest,
I in my Savior am happy and blest;
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.
Chorus
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.
