The Story Behind the Hymn
Written in 1971 by Bill and Gloria Gaither, this song was born during a time of intense personal and social unrest. Gloria was pregnant with their son, Benjy, and the world seemed to be falling apart with the Vietnam War and social upheaval.
As they contemplated bringing a new life into such an uncertain world, the Holy Spirit reminded them of the resurrection. They realized that “life is worth the living” not because the world is perfect, but because Jesus is alive. This hymn has since become a global beacon of hope for anyone facing an “uncertain tomorrow.”
